Despite shooting at M class, one issue I figured I'd have fixed by now but I keep running into is iconsistent grips when going for a draw. It happens a lot more when doing hands above shoulders draws. Sometimes I'll grip too high and get a nasty slide bite. Other times I'll grip too low and I'm shooting with a big space between my hand and the beaver tail. Is this something that still happens even to the best of shooters? Or am I doing something wrong? I feel like 2 out of 10 draws come out a little bit messy. I've been able to save stages by simply shooting my sights (which one should be doing anyways) but I also know it's caused me to mess up when doing bill drills or some multiple shot strings on one target classifiers that require more predictive shooting.

Do you guys fix your grip as you're presenting? When already fully aiming at the target? Train to never miss your perfect grip? Or like me, do you guys just Ride the Kali Yuga?

For me, my draw is slightly faster than my reload, but both are pathetic at over 2 seconds.
Talking mainly steel challenge, rimfire handguns..
Getting back into match shooting with revolver Icore as main focus, but pretty much all I have near by is a steel challenge club, plus the stages are easy to set up at home.
Back in USPSA days when I was drawing, and or transitioning, I basically focused on the first target, drew and indexed out and shot,, eys got to next target,, and either pull in and re present, or moved gun to next target,,

But now I am using a dot mostly.. So whats the consensus on first target techniques from low ready,,
Arms extended barrel down, focused on dot, then follow dot up to target, ? seems faster than a first target focus. Seems I am faster that way..

4 Aces. From hands at sides, draw and shoot two rounds. Reload and shoot two more. Thus the name because of the 4 A zone hits, 4 Aces. Typically shot from 7 yards.

Usually I do a 2.5- something run. 0.95 draw, 0.15 split, 1.25 reload and 0.15 split for a 2.50 second run. The final run in this video is my new personal best of 2.30 seconds! And yes, the super fast guys can do it in 2.0 flat, but for me this is a new best ever. Shot with my CZ Shadow 2 and Production gear.

As a newer USPSA shooter, I wanted to start getting a baseline on my “gear” setup ie holster belt mag pouch locations etc, and shot the El Pres. I had another shooter comment that it was not ideal for a gear testing baseline. Is this true or is there a better way to track your baseline progress when adjusting mag pouches and holster placement? My time is around 15 seconds so I’m not exactly burning it down yet.

are there workouts to increase strength in your support hand or is it something overtime I should be doing in dry fire to constantly grip harder and harder with my support.

Hey all, so I have been noticing quite a few shooters transitioning between targets (especially longer transitions) using an arc like an upside down U for lack of a better way to describe it. Not just any shooters, but a lot of the top dogs.

Wondering if anyone knows why they use that method? Only thing I could think of is its less harsh on the stop after the transition and lets you possibly shoot faster since the A zone is longer than wider? I haven't heard any of them talk about it so just thought I'd toss it out here.

I shot my 2nd USPSA match this weekend, and it really shined a spotlight on what I feel is my biggest weakness - movement.

We shot 8 stages - the last 5 of which were classifer stages. I did reasonably well in 4 of the 5 classifiers. I placed 1st,2nd,3rd, and 4th in 4 of the 5. But I lost the most time during the first 3 non-classifer stages (where you have a lot more time available to lose). I finished 27.16 seconds behind the 2nd place holder and 41.85 seconds behind 1st place holder - I came in 4th place.

I had the second highest A zone score in the match, and had zero misses. That, combined with my classifier performance seems to suggest that gun handling and marksmanship isn't my biggest problem.

Again, most of my lost time came from the first three stages – 32, 23,and 39 seconds respectively. I placed 6th, 6th, and 10th on these stages. My total time for these three stages was 94 seconds. Comparing the same stages to the 2nd and 1st place holders:

	2nd Place – 23, 17, and 28 with a total time of 68 seconds. I gave up 26 seconds to the 2nd place holder.

1st Place – 18, 15, 24, with a total time of 57 seconds. I gave up 37 seconds to the first place holder.

I ran these 3 stages pretty much the same as everyone else - USPSA stages seem much more straight forward than 3 Gun stages from a stage planning perspective. I think I'm just moving too slowly from point to point - the classifier data seems to suggest that I'm pulling the trigger fast enough, reloading fast enough, etc.

Any suggestions on drills I can do to improve my point to point movement? Even a 5-10 second improvement on each of these stages would have pushed me up a place or two I believe.

I really enjoy getting out past 100 yards or so and shooting steel (C-Zone most of the time because it’s what I’ve got) with whatever pistol I’m focusing on at the time. Same basic test can be made with a dot drill but there’s something about overcoming the mental block most folks have that handguns can’t be used at further distances.

Sight alignment and trigger control must be spot on of course and recoil management definitively has to be on point to make it more than a one shot drill.

As I’ve gotten more comfortable with it, I’ve periodically tried Bill Drills (longer time window of course) or lower par times for my first shot. Fun stuff if you’re getting bored with close paper targets.

New to Red Dots, shooting Rimfire club match, club rules. It’s like steel challenge, simpler, indoors at 15 yards. Gun held free style on a yellow cone to start . Stages targets vary, small to large. To date probably 1000 rounds practice with the dot on paper plates tapped to backer moving one to another., 5 club matches so far. Accurate not fast.

Like advice on how to acquire targets. Have been focusing on the dot resting top of the start cone. Then bring it to the first target. Move to next targets same way watching the dot move it onto the desired spot. I know I would shoot much faster eyes on the spot I want to hit bring the sights to it almost sub conscious. Gun aligned it just goes off hardly think about it at all. It’s the way I shoot everything else.

Problem is can’t seem to make the red dot work that way. Any and all comments appreciated
